Bates Mission Carnival – That’s A Wrap!

Whew! Last month’s Carnival is over and done, but we’re still wrapping up some things . . . and decorating our office with the adorable, leftover Bates Bears! Believe it or not, we’re already planning next year’s Carnival, so we wanted to share some highlights from this year’s event so those of you who missed it can feel just some of the love and support from the community we did on that day and make plans to join us in 2025!

When we set out to put on a new legacy fundraiser, we were excited but a little overwhelmed by the scale of the event. The list included a car show, midway-style games with prizes, a kiddie train, face-painting and balloon art, a petting zoo, axe-throwing trailer, local vendors, a build-your-own Bates Bear, a DJ, and, of course, food trucks with Carnival-themed treats! The whole thing was massive compared to anything we’ve done in the past, but we decided to take a leap of faith and are so humbled by the way the Honda Leander and the Leander Leaders group stepped up to make this event a success. The Carnival was truly our Field of Dreams. We built it (with lots of help, of course), and you ALL came!

Honda Leander moved over 160 cars off their lot to accommodate all our activities and booths, and their employees took time to support our fundraiser even though they were working that day. We had an overwhelming response for volunteers. Our vendors were all patient with us and last-minute permitting and logistic changes. The epic cars came. The MAYOR came. The families and friends came, even with rain and thunderstorms threatening all day. But while we held our breath hoping for a good turn out, the bad weather held off and the whole community showed UP to support Bates Mission.

The connections we made and the memories we created that day are priceless, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
