The Power of Showing Up: How Everyday Support Builds a Lasting Mission

At Bates Mission, we often talk about impact. But lately, we’ve been thinking just as much about support—the quiet kind that doesn’t always make headlines, but makes all the difference.

Because real change doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes people showing up—consistently, creatively, and with heart.

What “Showing Up” Looks Like

For small nonprofits, consistency can be a challenge. With limited staff and tight budgets, staying visible and effective takes work. That’s why community support is more than helpful—it’s essential.

This year alone, we’ve been reminded of that again and again:

  • 🧼 In May, Texas Two-Step Gaming hosted a month-long supply drive for Sheila’s Supply Closet, filling a truckload of donations and topping it off with a generous financial gift.
  • 🎁 Local companies have chosen Bates Mission as their service project of the year—packing housewarming kits, sorting donations, and pitching in with energy and kindness.
  • 🎂 Our community continues to surprise us with birthday fundraisers, social media shoutouts, and personal messages of encouragement.
  • 🧴 Volunteers have stepped up to pack hygiene kits and gather essentials for young adults moving into their very first homes.

These acts may seem small on their own—but together, they build the foundation of our work.

Why This Kind of Support Matters

When someone donates time, shares a post, or chooses Bates Mission for their company’s next service day, they’re doing more than helping us check a box. They’re telling the young adults we serve: You matter. You’re not alone.

They’re also telling our team: Keep going. We believe in this, too.

And that belief? That’s what turns a mission into a movement.

Want to Help?

You don’t have to be a nonprofit pro or a major donor to make a difference. Here are a few ways to show up for Bates Mission—or any cause that speaks to you:

  • Host a birthday fundraiser or choose us for your company’s next service day
  • Help pack or sponsor hygiene or housewarming kits
  • Share one of our posts with a personal message about why you care
  • Simply check in and ask, “What do you need right now?”

These small gestures mean more than you know. They remind us that we’re part of something bigger—and that’s what keeps us going.

💛 Thanks for being part of the village. If you’re new here, we’d love to have you. batesmission.org
